This was the first in a series of “Sweet 16” amps that I designed that give you some big tone at a bit of a reduced volume. At 16 watts they are still plenty loud and come with an added bonus of weighing in at at about half the weight of a full sized Wreck build. These amps mix a little Trainwreck technology together with modern production techniques and currently available parts.
A simplified layout using modern power supply components and vintage signal chain caps. The tube sockets are mounted directly to the chassis and the overall result produces a classis sound from a physically robust package. There is very little wire in the signal chain which helps keep the noise down in a high gain amp.
For this build I used Edcor transformers that were custom built to my own specifications and built not so far away from me over in Carlsbad New Mexico. Edcor is famous in the HiFi community and making a bit of a mark in the guitar amp DIY community as well.
